Creativity Vs Technique

“If you have many talent media techniques, but lack of creativity. You will be a worker in a factory.”

In the first lesson, I need to make my own name tag. I designed a simply name tag. A triangle shape with name drew on it. It is not impressive. After we played a game. All people forgot my name tag. I look around my classmates, I saw my name tag is quick similar to their. I noticed that my design is not unique. No one will interest and remember it. If there is no creative element in the design, the product will become dull and meaningless. Just like a factory worker, making same or common things. There are two basic elements of media production, they are creativity and technique.

“If you have many talent media techniques, but lack of creativity. You will be a worker in a factory.” I found that it pointed out one of my serious problem. I just focus on technique only. In the past, I trained my media techniques continuously. Such as special effect, animation, photo editing. However, I ignored the development of creativity. When I look back to my portfolio (For SCM in JUPAS), I see most of them are showing techniques instead of creative idea. A lot of work is created by other people before. I realize that I am combining things, but not creating things. I am guided by the traditional design. An impressive design should be “First time in history”. I finally found out the importance of creativity.

I’m aware to improve my creativity. I need to design different style for media product, and not follow the traditional concept directly. Also, I need to see more and feel more to change my thinking style.
